To achieve the vision of gender parity across the organisation, Amazon has been taking several steps to gradually improve gender diversity across job roles and seniority levels. Amazon is now launching a networking platform for women students to support them in their pursuit of building a long-term career in technology.

What is Amazon WoW?

Amazon WoW is a networking platform for all women engineering students in India that connects them to Amazon leaders, student recruiters, and the broader Amazon community. The platform provides an opportunity to participate in skill building sessions, utilise available resources, converse with alumni on their career experiences, and be acquainted with the culture at Amazon.

Says Suman Yadav, Head of Student Programs in APAC, “At present, there are not enough structured avenues for women in tech to connect with industry leaders regularly. Amazon WoW bridges that gap and provides a platform for women to interact with tech leaders at Amazon and get guidance from their role models. This initiative allows us to reach students soon after they enrol in the engineering course, nurture and engage with them over several years. This will enable and empower students to make the best career choice at the end of their education.”

How does it help women engineering students?

The program connects and engages with registered participants through virtual events, live sessions, interview prep sessions, online workshops, and fireside chats with Amazon’s tech leaders, and recent hires. The events, hosted through the year, will help aspirants understand how to prepare for and plan their career journey. The events will also provide an insight to Amazon culture and offerings, allowing participants to apply for open roles.

“Amazon has a unique culture that makes us the most customer obsessed company in the world. Sign up for Amazon WoW to better understand the culture and how we work backwards from our customer’s needs. Participation in this program will provide insights on Amazon’s values and Leadership Principles, as well as guide you through how to build impactful products,” promises Prashant Agrawal, Director, Software Development, Value Added Services Tech, Amazon India.

Amazon’s evolution has been driven by the spirit of innovation, which is part of its DNA. To this end, Amazon WoW strives to foster development of the brightest minds from engineering campuses across India and strengthen skills for various career opportunities in tech backgrounds.

“Amazon WoW is a great opportunity for every girl dreaming of building a career in technology. My experience was marvellous! All the skill building sessions were extremely enriching. Amazon created a friendly, professional and conversational atmosphere. The best part was the ‘interview preparatory session’ led by a senior Amazon leader that helped provide more clarity on the job profile and the interview process” shares Hema Sri, a Software Development Engineer at Amazon India and part of the Amazon WoW 2020 cohort.

Who can join Amazon WoW?

Women students across India, who are currently pursuing a four-year B.Tech/BE or two-year MCA, M.Tech/ME program or five year Dual Degree can participate in the Amazon WoW program.
