As we celebrate the 71st Republic Day, the dynamism and energy that India represents is there for everyone to witness. At Amazon India, this same dynamism is reflected through our small business owners who through their entrepreneurial zeal and innovative products, have made Amazon.in India’s largest online store, thus enabling every Indian to access the widest selection of products at the best value and delivered fast and reliably.

With over 550K sellers on our platform and 60K sellers selling on 13 Amazon marketplaces, SMBs have found success online. Our programs like Amazon Saheli are helping bring women entrepreneurs online; Amazon Launchpad, is enabling Indian startups to launch tens of thousands of new innovative products; or Amazon Karigar, which is reviving Indian art and handicrafts by bringing close to 150,000 weavers & artisans households online. In addition to this, we unlocked the potential of kirana store owners, allowing them to supplement their regular income and generate more footfalls in their stores as they become our logistics partners through our unique I Have Space program. In remote towns Amazon Easy is empowering small corner shops to be digital assistants to first-time online shoppers. The entrepreneurial talent pool is only growing day by day in India.

The recent announcements in investments in India by Founder and CEO, Amazon Jeff Bezos of investing US $ 1 Billion to digitize SMBs and enable exports worth US $10 Billion of Made in India products to the world by 2025, means a significant growth of SMBs in the coming years and the creation of over 1 million jobs by 2025.

However, along with enabling entrepreneurship success, Amazon does recognize that climate change is real. At the recently concluded SMB summit in New Delhi, Jeff Bezos said, “There are no other good planets in this solar system. We have to take care of this one and we have to do that a bunch of different ways…When a big company like Amazon gets very serious about meeting the goals of the Paris accord 10 years earlier, it can have a big impact!”

We have started taking significant measures towards protecting our environment. We just announced the climate pledge which is to reach the goals of the Paris Accord 10 years early. Amazon is going to be 100% sustainable electricity by 2030 as a step on the way to that climate pledge. We've announced the addition of 10,000 electric delivery vehicles in our fleet by 2025 even as we have committed to eliminate 'single use plastic’ from our Fulfilment centers by June 2020.

It’s been a little over 6 years for Amazon.in but we are barely getting started. We are energized by the tremendous opportunity ahead of us to serve customers and play our part in India’s digital transformation even as we take steps to protect our environment.

It’s still Day 1!
