What started as a symbolic lights out event in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour today has become the world's largest movement for the environment. It has in many ways inspired people worldwide to take action for our planet and secure it for the future. Coordinated by WWF and other volunteer organisations, Earth Hour’s greatest strength is the power of people.

Earth Hour 2019 on Saturday 30 March from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. is an amazing opportunity for you to start changing the planet for the better!

The campaign is called ‘#Connect2Earth’ and we must in our own ways can build awareness on why nature is important and why preserving it for the future is more so.

Here are some habits that will go a long way in doing your bit for the Earth

  • Switch off after meetings

We spend many hours in meeting rooms to discuss and strategize. However, at the end our business goals are defined but we forget another goal. Saving electricity by switching off the lights.

  • Use energy saving bulbs like LED at home and office

LED bulbs save 90% more energy as compared to a traditional bulb with the same light output.

  • Send emails. Print Less.

There are many tools that can provide digital signature facilities. So, print less and send invoices, bills, contracts and other such documents in e-form.

  • A new beginning at the end of the day

Turning off computers and printers in offices and electronic gadgets at home at the end of the day will not only help in saving energy but also in preventing untoward fire accidents due to short circuits during unmanned hours.

  • Use the power of The Sun

Install a solar grid. It’s the cleanest energy, renewable, CO2 free and with low operating costs. Using electricity generated from sun is good for you and the Earth.

  • Recycle & conserve

Encourage colleagues and your family to reuse as much as possible, recycle plastic and compost food waste. Waste disposal is a major challenge in cities and recycling can help in saving landfills. Single use plastics are the biggest culprits.

  • Buy sustainable products

Sustainable products provide environmental, social as well as economic benefits.

  • Plant more trees

Trees isolate carbon and help to remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the air which cools the earth. Terrace gardens are the way to go for those of us living in small city spaces.
